Granite Man Mountain Run (Saturday) START TIME 9:00AM This is an exceptional 11 mile trail run that takes you from Hart-Tish Park along the length of the Collings Mountain Trail and then back Hart-Tish Park. It is the first race in the popular USATF Oregon Mountain Running Series. You do not need to be a USATF member to participate but you get a $3 discount if you are. Granite Man awards are given race day and are completely separate from the USATF awards presented at the end of the series. Beginning at Hart-Tish Park, the first 3.6 miles is along the beautiful Da-Ku-Be-Te-De Trail that wraps wonderfully around the western shore of Applegate Lake to Watkins Campground. You join Collings Mountain Trail and climb gradually for 5 miles traversing the western slope of Collings Mountain gaining 1,000 feet in elevation. You are rewarded with excellent panoramic views of Applegate Lake and the Siskiyou Crest at several locations along the trail. Trees encountered along the trail include old growth Douglas fir, sugar pine, ponderosa pine, Pacific madrone, white oak and Saddler oak. The trail then drops steeply for the next 2 miles down to Grouse Creek. An abandoned miner’s cabin and an inactive Sasquatch trap are encountered. Several mine adits (tunnels with one entrance) are also found along the trail. You cross Upper Applgate Road again and finish downhill to Hart-Tish Park. Breath in the mountain air and smile at your accomplishment! NEW! Grouse Gap 5K Trail Run (Saturday) START TIME 9:30AM This is a very nice short trail run that starts at Hart-Tish Park, completes Grouse Loop trail, and finishes back at Hart-Tish Park. The trail begins with a steep uphill climb from the lakefront at Hart-Tish Park up to Upper Applegate Road. You cross Upper Applegate Road and after about 300 yards begin a gentle 1 mile uphill grade, gaining 700 feet in elevation, while traversing a shallow basin of old growth Douglas fir, Sugar pine and Ponderosa pine. From the ridge line, good views of Elliott Creek Ridge and Red Buttes are seen. Leaving the ridge line, the trail begins a moderate descent back to Hart-Tish Park through a mixed conifer and hardwood forest. NEW! Granite Man 30K Trail Run (Saturday) START TIME 8:30AM Trail runners get ready for a treat! The very scenic 30K trail run begins at Hart-Tish Park and goes clockwise completely around the lake and finishes along the beach back at Hart-Tish Park. The single-track trail surface is mainly decomposed granite and you can expect some rocks and possibly windfall. There are numerous side streams you’ll cross on wooden bridges. All course intersections will be well marked. You do not need to be a USATF member to participate but you get a $3 discount if you are.
