Come join us for the third annual MAC Dash, Saturday, September 11, 2010. This year's event includes a sprint triathlon, a sprint duathlon and the kid's Mini-MAC Dash. All events will be centered at the beautiful Madras Aquatic Center in Madras, Oregon. This is a volunteer organized community event whose proceeds benefit the Madras Aquatic Center’s youth programming.
Triathlon - The MAC Dash sprint triathlon is a fun, high-quality, pool-based event. This race consists of a 500-yard swim, a 12-mile road bike and a 3-mile run. Both individual and team competitors are welcome.
DUATHLON NEW THIS YEAR: The MAC Dash is adding a duathlon for those competitors not ready to get their feet wet. This race begins with a 3-mile run, then a 12-mile bike and finishes with a repeat 3-mile run. Like the triathlon, both individual and team competitors are welcome. The triathlon and duathlon utilyze chip-timing which enables accurate results to be available and updated throughout the race.
Mini-MAC Dash - Also new this year is the Mini-MAC Dash for children 10 and younger. The focus of the event is participation and not competition. This untimed event is a great way to introduce young children to triathlons and encourage physical activity. Every participant will receive a shirt, goody-bag and award. This race will include a swim (or pool time), bike and run at varying distances. There is an opportunity to complete time in the pool without swimming for those not ready to do laps. Bikes with training wheels are welcome. Parents are invited to assist their children as much or as little as needed. THIS EVENT IS FREE!! The event will begin as the triathlon and duathlon events are ending.
Community - Madras is a small, rural community located in the beautiful high desert of Central Oregon. There are nine snow-peaked mountains to the west and rolling hills to the east. Each leg of the MAC Dash provides amazing views of the mountains and surrounding area.September is a wonderful time of year in Madras with moderate temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
Swim course - The MAC Dash will begin at the Madras Aquatic Center, a premier swimming facility. The swim requires completion of 20 lengths of the 25-yard lap pool.Your estimated 500-yard swim time is required to determine your race heat. Out of respect for all competitors, please be honest and accurate with your swim times. Significantly inaccurate times may result in disqualification. Bike course - The bike course begins and ends at the Madras Aquatic Center parking lot. The course leads the bikers through agricultural and quiet, residential areas of Madras. The roads are wide and well paved. An ANSI/Snell approved helmet is required.Ride on the right side of the road and pass to the left.Drafting, defined as being within 3 bike lengths of the rider in front of you, is not allowed.Flaggers and volunteers will be at intersections along the race course, but be alert to traffic. This course is not closed to vehicles.
Run course - Upon beginning the 3 mile run, competitors will head east past the Madras Aquatic Center and Jefferson County Middle School on another wide, well paved road. The runners will then enter Juniper Hills Park and complete one lap of the paved running trail. The race concludes on the track of Jefferson County Middle School.
